You know those movies where it paints a perfect picture of people being somewhere out in nature or the wild and they drink from the rivers like it’s a normal thing to do? Well, it’s not and it should definitely not be something anyone should consider doing because even if not all rivers are considered to be polluted, the consumption of non-purified water allows for a risk that is far too big of getting ill.
One of the biggest problems we face today is the fact that there are too little freshwater resources on earth. This amount adds up to just below 1% of the entire earth’s water and is quite concerning, giving the fact that there are over 8 billion people and hundreds of millions of animals and plants that need fresh water to be able to survive.
Apart from this low percentage, it gets even worse when you consider that some of it, all around the world, is polluted and unsafe for consumption. Thanks to the number of people populating the earth, along with an abundance of factories, there is not enough freshwater to go around. This is the epidemic we face that leads to illness and death, especially in third world countries that do not have the necessary resources to purify or provide water to its residents.
Rivers need to be cleaned up
“The Solution to Pollution is Dilutionâ€.
Some believe that adding more water to polluted water would rid the water of pollution or any bacteria-causing illnesses, but this is in fact not the case. Although there is not enough freshwater to go around for everyone right now, there is still hope as polluted rivers could still be cleaned and purified to serve as a freshwater resource for those who don’t have access to freshwater.
A lack of water due to pollution should not be considered to be a single country’s problem, but in fact, the entire world’s duty to do something about it.
