Why Water Issues Could Limit Future Growth of BusinessWater is an essential resource for any business, and with around 68% of the biggest firms globally reporting exposure to water risks, it is time that big business realised the potential this could have to limit growth.

When there are so many businesses that realise that water shortages could stymie their growth, it is time that Business came to the party in a big way to ensure that water is not wasted and that they need to stand up and be counted.

Why Water Issues Could Limit Future Growth of Business

An analysis done on the water management data of 174 companies listed on the FTSE Global 500 Equity Index, at the request of 573 institutional investors, has shown that investors are taking water challenges seriously and are pressing for corporate accountability on water.

The fact that this problem has now moved from operations to the boardroom is a good thing because it means that Business can no longer hide from the truth; water issues that are left unattended could lead to closure of operations and decrease in shareholder value, especially in emerging markets.

It is very simple; either Business pays heed to the water shortage problem and starts to take accountability and work together with local and regional governments to address the problems or they are going to find themselves out in the cold, competing with companies that have proven that they care about the environment and the future of water on the planet.

It is not that difficult to do either; US electronics manufacturer Cisco is already saving in excess of US$1m annually while using less water and all it took was for them to make a change in a soldering practice.

Corporations need to get into saving water, recycling water, reusing water and finding ways of doing things without using water or at least using less water; this needs to be carried over from the boardroom to all facets of the business as well as to every single staff member.

Accountability needs to be the buzzword or your business may just find itself out of business!
