It is important that you drink enough water at work, even if it is difficult due to the type of work that you do.
Some jobs entail working with machinery or electronic equipment, and this usually precludes an individual from having a glass or bottle of water next to them. This however does not mean that you cannot drink water at work, just that you need to drink enough water during your breaks.
Most companies have realised that drinking sufficient water is very important, and that dehydration can adversely affect their staff, so they supply water coolers to ensure that their staff remain hydrated and working at optimal levels.
Research conducted by Dr Caroline Edmonds, a psychologist at the University of East London, reports that subjects who drank a pint of water prior to completing mental tasks were 14 % quicker than those who did not drink water. The findings of this research showed that even mild dehydration could adversely affect mental performance.
What Type of Water is Best?
While the tap water is of a good standard, and many individuals prefer it, others have developed the habit of only drinking bottled water. Unfortunately, bottled water has led to landfills that are filling up with toxic plastic containing chemicals like phthalates thatare leeching into the ground. Research has also indicated that many of the so-called healthy bottled waters contain more contaminants than tap water.
Although the tap water is of good quality, it does not always have the best taste, and this stops individuals from drinking as much water as they should at work. Coffee and tea do add to the daily-recommended fluid intake, but coffee is a diuretic, so it is recommended that individuals drink pure water too.
One method of improving the taste of the mains water is for firms to install a water cooler. This is because our mains water cooler, or point-of-use, improve the impurities found in tap water. The result is that the water tastes similar to natural spring water therefore individuals drink more. Mains water coolers are ideally suited to larger firms, and can be fitted with water filters.
Smaller companies may prefer a different solution such as Living-Water’s bottled water cooler, which are filled with Living-Water spring water from the Wenlock range. This water is fresh, sweet and cool and refreshes one like tap water can never do.
Why Drink Water at Work?
It is important to drink water at work so that you do not dehydrate, and because one should drink water at regular intervals throughout the day so that toxins do not get a chance to build up in the body but removed via urinating on a regular basis.
Regular water-intake reduces the likelihood of colon and bladder cancer as the water dilutes the concentration of cancer-causing agents in the urine. This dilution means that the bladder lining is not exposed to these toxins for prolonged periods of time.
A regular intake of water refreshes you, improves your digestive system, increases your metabolic rate, moisturises the skin, and can significantly improve your ability to think, reason and calculate.
If the body is insufficiently hydrated, the heart has to work harder to pump fresh oxygenated blood to your organs. Studies conducted at the Loma Linda University in California showed that individuals who drink water throughout the day, as opposed only in the morning and the evening, are far less prone to heart -attacks.
A last little bonus of drinking water at work is the fact that a regular intake of water makes one eat less, therefore it leads to weight loss.
