Water at home and in sportJune 2006 Did the Mexican Ref ruin our World

Anyone watching the World Cup match referred by Mexican Max Rodrigue will have been incredulous to watch the referee preventing England players taking on board more water during their critical World Cup match.  England players were rightly outraged

FIFA issued a directive which said: “Because the balance of water in the body is essential to health, FIFA actively encourages players to drink liquids during the match.”

However, they also have issued strict rules “that must be observed so as to avoid disorderliness on the field and possible injury from objects such as bottles being thrown around.”

The FA officially made representations to FIFA, complaining about the behaviour of the Mexican official.

Playing football in 30 degrees is difficult enough when fully hydrated and preventing our players properly hydrating themselves frankly stinks!!! Makes no sense what so ever.

Do you think dehydration contributed to Englands poor performance?? Post below

Should we be telling the FA where to buy water coolers and cold water dispensers (Hopefully Living-Water) rather than having bottles and maybe we could design a water cooler that feeds a long pipe right to the pitch?

Is there possibly an optimum temperature at which to drink the water while doing sport, partricularly football and could this enhance performance – No need for steroids, just optimumally (not sure that word really exists) cooled Living spring water.

As a drinking water company we would happily work with FIFA to research and identify this – as London drinking water company we would very much like to work with a London football club and await the call from anyone interested
