Whether or not mermaids are real, is a question that cannot be answered.
From a young age, we were taught that mermaids were beautiful sea creatures with long hair, who is half human and half fish.
Just because this image has been depicted by Hollywood as such, does not mean it is the actual case.
How will we know, however? Some people, particularly scientists, describe them as being somewhat alien-like, and not attractive to the eye whatsoever. They are described as more monstrous and dangerous than serene and peaceful creatures.
The very famous nature-informative show, Animal Planet, launched a documentary that made the world believe that they exist.
The footage aired of the mythological creatures, shows them swimming free in the Greenland Sea.
They also have footage taken by a submarine crew, of a webbed hand pressed against the underwater vessel, along with a human-like figure swimming away, further down the depts of the ocean.
If there is evidence, then surely they must be real?
Apart from the existing footage of the mermaids, Animal Planet also released a follow-up documentary, ‘The Body Found’, which shows the footage of a boy on a beach discovering a mermaid.
Animal Planet left millions of people astonished with their findings. The only part of these documentaries that set people off from their theories, were their CGI animations and sequences, which were used to fill the documentary and bring the idea of the creatures more to life.
The documentary left many people with the idea that they do exist. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration was also found to be inundated with a demand for the information.
The documentaries are based on a mere idea that mermaids exist. Till today, no one knows for sure what lies in the darkest of oceans. Even though mermaids seem like a tale told by the Greeks or pirates, the ocean still holds 95% of secrets that are yet to be discovered.
