While water seems to be running out in the beautiful mother city that is Cape Town and a prediction that there are only three months of water left, the people of both Cape Town and South Africa are scratching their heads trying to find a solution to something no one ever would’ve thought could happen so quickly.

The first city in the world that might, or will be without water and that all in 2018 still. Although this is a crazy and horrible idea to wrap our heads around, it is one such that is extremely serious and should be taken completely seriously. Saving water has never been as important anywhere else in the world, then it is in the city and province residing in South Africa.

Hope and Conspiracies

If you think of telling a city, a province, a nation and then, the world, such a shocking thing like “there will not be any water left after three months”, chances are people will be pretty shaken up.

There has been a lot of controversies, ideas and possibilities presented at the cities front doorstep. Some believe that the government isn’t telling truth regarding the water crisis, others place a lot of emphasis on the biggest water resource in the Western Cape, which is underneath Table Mountain itself, and many seem to have hope in the midst of all the chaos surrounding the drought.

Table Mountain – All we need?

Despite the controversies and negative talk, Table Mountain might be the one source of hope we need in the crisis we face today. It is all due to the fynbos vegetation surrounding the mountain that plays a role in water retention. Due to the fact that the entire mountain is covered in fynbos, which doesn’t soak up water, but rather allows rainwater to run into the rivers and the wetlands too.

What does this all mean? It means that we shouldn’t be in a panic as there is plenty of water, a couple billions of cubic metres to be exact, running underground underneath the mountain.

The only challenge Cape Town now faces is the extraction of the water which will have to be both environmentally end economically friendly. The important thing to remember is that there is always hope and while this entire plan to extract the water will take time, consideration, a lot of money and so much more, where there’s a will, there’s always a way.
