As the most important commodity to be able to sustain life, including humans, animal life, plants and the Earth overall, water is a necessity, which the shortage thereof cannot be stressed enough. Especially, when it comes to freshwater resources, which is the water resource that is considered to be the most scarce, but most important of all.

Poor management of these water resources is the main reason why many countries face water shortages in the world. With water shortages not only comes a lack of availability to for all to drink and use, but also disease, death amongst plants and animals and a lack of food due to crops not being able to grow.

The Countries with the Biggest Water Crisis

Somalia

Known for its wars and high levels of poverty, this African country is considered to be one of the most water-scarce countries of all, which furthermore adds to starvation and an ever-increasing death toll. What makes the water crisis in Somalia even worse is the fact that there are enough water resources to sustain the entire country, but due to lack of management in government, people need to travel very far to get access to clean water. The availability of clean water is becoming less and less each day.

Syria

When it comes to water scarcity, it’s often the countries experiencing the worst acts of war that have the least water and live in the most critical conditions. The city of Aleppo in Syria is experiencing one of the biggest shortages as the water source that has been provided by the Government has been cut off and the situation is continuing to get worse each and every day. Many governments and organizations have tried to help this epidemic problem, there has been no change for the better in recent years, which has resulted in illness, an increasing death toll and forced people to migrate.

Egypt

With the help of the Nile river, Egypt has never faced water shortages before and have had enough water to sustain its entire population, but as time went by, the river has become more and more polluted, which has lead to it to no longer be a healthy, clean source of drinking water. The levels of the river have also been decreased, causing a bigger water shortage and even more illness. The country’s people have been forced to drink from the Nile, even though it’s polluted.
