The human body is approximately 70% water, and it is vital that this balance be maintained for good health. The body cannot store water but loses it throughout the day so we all need to ensure that we drink water regularly throughout the day in order to replace the water that we may have lost through sweating, urinating and various other normal bodily functions.
When you lose more liquids than you are taking in, you will become dehydrated, which can lead to various health ailments including thirst, headaches, dizziness, kidney problems, heart problems and so much more.
There is really no need to get dehydrated though because staying hydrated and healthy is very easy and will not cost you a cent. All you need to do is:
- Drink Water Regularly: Begin each day by drinking a nice big glass of water – this will sort out the dehydration from all the hours of sleep, kick-start your metabolism and give you a great start to the day.
- Drink Water Throughout the Day: Make sure that even though you drink other liquids you also drink a least another 5 to 6 glasses of water during the day and a last one just before going to sleep.
- Eat Fruit And Vegetables High In Water Content: While most of your daily fluids must come from drinking water, which is still the best source of hydration, eating fruit and vegetables like watermelon, celery, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, oranges, radishes, tomatoes, strawberries and spinach, which are high in water content will also help.
- Limit Your Salt Intake: Salt dehydrates the body, so eat less salty foods and snacks, and make sure that when you do eat them, you drink lots of water.
- Drink More Water When Necessary: Drink water before and after exercising, as well as during extended exercise and if you are doing physical labour or it is very hot outside.
The easiest way to tell if you are dehydrated is to keep an eye on the colour of your urine; the darker it is the more dehydrated you are.
