The Message that the Ancient Hopi bring about WaterWater is a life-giver and a life-sustainer; it begins in miniscule raindrops, transforms into flowing rivers, journeys to impressive oceans, gets taken up into thundering clouds and then descends back to earth again.

The Hopi are one of the oldest remaining ancient cultures and live in the arid Painted Desert, also known as Tibet of the West. Rainfall is minimal in the region, and the Hopi have perfected the art of creating thriving gardens – this is commonly known as dry-farming.

The Hopi Nation has a great connection with nature and holds a great ancient wisdom which they have passed down through the ages. They believe that we are all related to the clouds and their rich cultural traditions, dances, and spiritual practices give them a very special relationship with water. They believe that if no rains come it is because we are spiritually out of harmony, and thus they are also experts in rituals that summon the rain to water their crops

Japanese scientist, Masaru Emoto visited the Hopi Mesas in Northern Arizona in 2006 to discuss their traditions and his ground-breaking research with water, which implies that water is conscious and receptive to human energy and intention and that it has intelligence and wisdom.

The symbols used in Hopi dances, rituals, art and jewellery reflect their beliefs that being in harmony with nature is vital to life itself. The Hopi symbolise water as clouds, frogs, turtles, lightning, rain and waves.

When news of Emoto’s visit became public knowledge, a call went out to tribes and communities all over to send water from their local rivers, springs, and wells to Hopi to combine the waters of the world. The Hopi gathered this water and combined it in gourds that are traditionally used to carry water, believing that this combining of the waters carries the combined prayers of individuals from all over.

The Hopi began a historic run from Northern Arizona to Mexico City, carrying the gourds, as they believe that running is a form of prayer, that the pounding of their feet on the ground sends prayers into the heart of Mother Earth. The message that the Hopi were sending out was that Water is Life and profiteering from water while many do not have access to clean water for drinking or hygiene will not be accepted.
