Following water shortages in Tshwane, over 2,000 residents have been left without water due to a burst pipe, which also includes hospital patients. This incident was just one of the major incidents that contributed to the ongoing water shortage problem in the region, which continues to affect residents very negatively.
Tshwane municipality reported that the pipe burst, which resulted in a lot of water being lost, including water derived from freshwater fountains in the south of Pretoria’s central city region.
This has caused major outrage in the area, with residents looking at the municipality to fix the problem and pay more attention to issues related to the loss of water in not only Tshwane but also the entire province. Better management of water is a must in Gauteng, as the city’s population continues to grow.
The Tshwane Municipality is Currently Tackling the Problem
The municipality has thus far ensured that proficient resources have been set in place to repair the pipes, which spans up to 1,000mm. However, given the pipe’s length, it will take some time to repair. The municipality has warned that the repair of the pipe will affect up to 2,500 people, including schools and hospitals in the area.
Areas that have been the most affected, are Arcadia, Clydesdale, and Sunnyside. Currently, the municipality is dedicated to resolving the ongoing water crises in both Tshwane and the entire province. Thirty water tankers have thus far been deployed, all of which have been set at strategic points, with the purpose to supply water during the repair of the damaged pipes. Restoring the damaged pipe will restore water to a few thousand residents and is considered a very serious matter.
The intensity and extended duration of the repair work may continue to aggravate residents, which is why they are urged to remain patient while the reconstruction is underway.
