This occurrence is caused by environmental problems, that spans from erosions to rising seawater levels. As one of the first locations to be affected, Caritas is focused on as a region in danger of being affected by the forces of nature. A rise in sea-levels, along with flooding and erosion, is also accompanied by the insatiable abuse of the ocean’s resources.
Communities residing in Caritas, as well as surrounding regions, will continue to experience the effects of climate change and severe environmental degradation. As the water tables rises, fish become poisoned, mangroves die and could possibly even reach extinction. Salt is also seeping into the groundwater which also causes clean drinking water to become unfit for human, plant and animal consumption.
Apart from now, such severe effects have never occurred before, which leaves us with the pending idea that this is indeed not the last island/region, that will be affected by a rise in seawater-levels, as a result of global warming.
The Effects of Environmental Factors on Oceania
Environmental factors that are affected by global warming, are causing the safety of food and water to decrease at a rapid pace. These factors have also led to extreme weather conditions to increase.
Mining, palm oil plantations and logging on islands and within the Oceania region, is also having a severe impact on food and water supplies.
A lack of funding towards climate change and global warming within the region of some of the oceans’ most essential habitats, needs to be increased, to find more solutions to rectify and prevent the problem at hand. Although funding towards decreasing environmental factors has increased, it is not enough to currently, reach all the people in need, in Oceania.
