Today there are literally hundreds of kinds of bottled water, including flavoured water, on the market that companies are marketing as being “healthy†and “good for you†but just how healthy are they?
Yes, we need to drink lots of water regularly throughout the day, but is drinking bottled water, negative calories water, infused water, enhanced water, vitamin-enriched water, mineral water, health water, spring water, carbonated water, juiced water and flavoured water any better than drinking ordinary tap water?
Unfortunately the fact that many countries have problems with their tap water such as lead, arsenic, fluoride or other pollutants showing up in it has opened the door to unscrupulous companies that will peddle anything to unsuspecting customers that are trying to live a healthy life.
Unfortunately many of these bottled waters are actually nothing more than ordinary tap water which has been decanted into a fancy bottle and had an even fancier label slapped on it together with a hefty price-tag to make it seem what it is not.
When it comes to ‘flavoured water,’ you may want to check on a few things before parting with your hard-earned cash on something that could be a total waste of money:
-
Some flavoured water does contain vitamins, but not all of them do. Check the labels to see what vitamins are purported to be included and in what quantities;
-
What does negative calories water even mean? Water does not have any calories anyway, so what could bottlers have done that changed that – can water have less than zero calories?
-
Flavoured water is usually flavoured with some form of artificial sweeteners such as sucralose or aspartame or a form of sugar such as cane sugar, high fructose corn syrup, or agave syrup, so check how many calories the label says the water contains, especially if you are on a diet;
So, “Are Flavoured Waters Healthy?†I do not think so, and neither does Tamara Cohen, who says that “The bitter truth is that a small bottle of flavoured water can contain as much sugar as a plate of Krispy Kreme doughnuts.â€
