Most of us know by now that the human body consists of around 70% water and that it is important to maintain this balance in order to stay hydrated and for our body to remain healthy and function optimally. This has also led to various individuals drinking water for medicinal reasons.
Drinking Water for Medicinal Reasons
Drinking water is not only necessary to quench our thirst, but it is also good to drink water for medicinal reasons; this has become very popular in Japan today.
According to the Japanese medical society, drinking water for medicinal reasons is a sure-fire way to combat both old and serious diseases as well as more modern illnesses. According to the Japanese, drinking water for medicinal reasons will help to cure:
- Arrhythmia
- Arthritis,
- Asthma
- Body aches
- Bronchitis
- Cardiac problems
- Constipation
- Diabetes
- Diarrhoea
- Ear nose and throat diseases
- Epilepsy
- Eye diseases
- Gastritis
- Headaches
- Kidney and urinary diseases
- Meningitis
- Obesity
- Piles
- Tuberculosis
- Vomiting
- Womb, cancer and menstrual disorders
Scientific studies have proven that drinking water first thing in the morning is very healthy, and the Japanese have taken this a step further by turning this into the following method of treatment:
- Upon awakening and before brushing your teeth, drink 4 x 160ml glasses of cold water;
- Brush your teeth and rinse your mouth, but do not eat or drink anything for 45 minutes;
- Do not eat or drink cold water for 2 hours after breakfast, lunch and dinner
The reason for not drinking cold water directly after a meal is that the Japanese and Chinese believe that a cold drink will solidify the fat in the meal, which would slow down digestion and the reaction of the resultant sludge with the stomach acids could lead to cancer. This is the reason why Japanese and Chinese always drink hot tea with their meals.
Those who find it difficult to drink 4 glasses of water straight off the bat can start slowly and gradually work up to the four glasses first thing in the morning. According to the Japanese, this will help cure the above illnesses and maintain a healthy body for those who are not ill.
While the Japanese claim that the above treatment will cure the above diseases in a prescribed number of days, this has not been medically proven in any studies that this writer is aware of. It cannot do your body any harm though, as drinking water is very healthy for you. It is also recommended that you drink a large glass of water last thing at night as it can prevent heart attacks.
