Once you have invested in a water cooler, it is important that you do your best to ensure that it stays in good working order and lasts a long time. This sometimes means regular maintenance and upkeep to ensure that nothing gets clogged up from not being cleaned.
While some of the top of the line models virtually clean and maintain themselves, most water coolers will need some manual cleaning and maintenance. Bottled water coolers especially need to be serviced every three months or so. This can easily be done by following these steps:
- Ensure the water cooler unit is unplugged from the wall outlet before doing any cleaning or maintenance
- Remove the bottle of water from the unit
- Turn the water cooler unit so the back of it is facing away from the wall
- Place a 2 litre bucket under the drain plug that is located at the back of the unit
- Remove any left over water from the cold reservoir by opening the tap over a bucket
- Remove the problem assembly by turning it counter clockwise
- Remove plastic baffle from the inside reservoir
- Using a soft cloth and a mixture of tap water and unscented household bleach, clean the baffle and probe assembly – rinse thoroughly after wiping.
- Wipe inside the reservoir and area around tap(s) with a soft cloth. If mineral build-up is present, use a product that gets rid of lime, rust and calcium
- Rinse the water cooler system by pouring 1-2 litres of regular tap water through the unit and into a bucket.
- Remove the rest of the water from all reservoirs by dispensing them into the bucket.
- Replace all parts and put the water cooler back together
- Turn the unit back around, add a fresh bottle of water and plug it back in.
Enjoy your newly serviced water cooler and the chilled drinking water that you will get from it and good health into the bargain.
