Americans Have Been Overdosing on Fluoride for DecadesAmericans have been overdosing on fluoride for decades, and for the first time since 1962, the US government has admitted that they are to blame.

The US has now lowered its recommended level of fluoride in drinking water from 0.7 to 1.2 milligrams per litre (mg/L) of water to the new limit as set by the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which is a maximum of 0.7 mg/L.

Dental fluorosis, a condition that makes tooth enamel appear chalky-looking, splotchy, or have pitting or dark staining, affects between 40% and 80% of American teens. This condition is caused by long-term ingestion of fluoride during the period that the teeth are forming.

While fluoride has been added to drinking water in many countries, including the UK, in an attempt to improve dental hygiene in children and adolescents, especially those in poorer areas that do not have adequate medical aid, it has somewhat back-fired.

There is sufficient fluoride in other items such as toothpaste, processed foods and beverages, to add it to the main supply of drinking water is basically forcing individuals to ingest a toxic substance without them realising the effects thereof.

Barbara Gooch, a dentist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stated that “The only documented risk of water fluoridation is fluorosis, and it is primarily a cosmetic risk. Fluorosis in the milder form is not a health risk.”

Well, Barbara Gooch needs to do some more research on the subject, especially seeing that:

  • Dental fluorosis may be the most visible form of fluorosis, but it is far from being “just cosmetic” as it also indicates the overexposure to the rest of the body such as the internal organs, including your brain;
  • It can be a sign that the fluoride has damaged your bones too, and skeletal fluorosis is very difficult to distinguish from arthritis. Signs of skeletal fluorosis include:
    • A tingling, burning, and prickling sensation in your limbs
    • Anaemia
    • Calcification of the tendons or ligaments of ribs and pelvis
    • Chronic fatigue
    • Gastrointestinal problems
    • Muscle weakness
    • Osteoporosis in the long bones
    • Osteosclerosis
    • Reduced appetite and weight loss
    • Stiff joints and/or constant pain in your bones; brittle bones
