The human body consists of around 70% water and many indigenous cultures believed for centuries that water can hold a ‘memory’ from the influence of sound, light and human intention, and that water can heal.
Masaru Emoto used images, photographed under a microscope, to show the world how intentions may affect water on a structural level. Ancient Christians held the same beliefs, which can be seen in their rituals which they claim turn regular water into holy water. Others have felt the effects of vibrational essences and the water from flower baths – many believe in bathing in lavender for instance, as it calms one.
Water that was charged with healing intention and then given to someone who was ill has been used by ancient cultures for centuries. The Desana tribe who reside in the Amazon for instance, continue to practice the charging of liquids, particularly herbal medicines, with intention via song, whistling or the blowing of tobacco smoke over the liquid to be used for healing, on both sides of the Colombian/Brazilian border.
The Desana have three distinct types of shamans and the ones that work with incantations, usually over liquids, are known as kubu or kumu, who cure by the reciting inaudible, highly formalised therapeutic spells over a liquid which they then give to a patient to drink.
The Spanish word curar means ‘to cure’ and a healer in the Amazon is often known as a curendera or curandero. The other term used is icarar, which means to sing or whistle an icaro
Indigenous Australians, Apache Indians, Kalahari Bushmen in Africa, Indigenous Hawaiians and many more traditional cultures place a fundamental level of focus on deeply listening to nature and using this listening to create the incantations that they use to call on nature, including on water, to heal. The kubu shamans of the Desana believe that their incantations are more powerful, is faster acting, more penetrating, and more permanent when used with some kind of physical carrier like water.
