How to Care for your Water CoolerOne of the best ways to ensure that you always have beautifully fresh, chilled and great-tasting water at your fingertips is to invest in a water cooler. Whereas water coolers were big ugly old things that were only to be found in offices in years gone by, modern water coolers are svelte, stylish, rugged, versatile and full of modern technology.

Some top-of-the-range water coolers not only dispense great-tasting cold, ambient or hot water, and do everything bar wake you up with a cup of coffee in the morning, others need a bit more taking care of.

Although all modern bottled water coolers and mains water coolers are reliable and basically very low-maintenance, a little bit of TLC is required every now and again to ensure that they provide you with pristine drinking water for many years:

  • Cleaning: Wipe down the outside of your water cooler regularly with an antibacterial wipe to keep it looking sparkling and new;
  • Connections: It is always a good idea when performing other maintenance tasks to just give the pipes and connections a quick once-over to check that there are no leaks;
  • Drip Tray: If your water cooler does not have a self-cleaning drip-tray, make sure that you remove and empty the tray and clean it regularly to prevent dirt build up and water leakage;
  • Filters: If your water cooler has a filter it should be changed about every six months; this is generally quite easy and only takes about 5 minutes to do; and
  • Sanitising: If your water cooler does not have a self-sanitising function, flush a sanitising fluid through it every 6 months to remove any bacteria that could cause health problems.

If you do not have the time to do the above, your water company will usually perform these maintenance tasks for you at regular intervals.
