Why Bottled Water is not HealthierThe drinking of bottled water, which started off mainly as a fad the rich and famous partook of, has gained traction over the past couple of decades, with billions of bottles being sold globally each year.

The problem is that not only is the cost of bottled water prohibitive to the individual, at between 250 – 10,000 times the amount tap water costs, but it is destroying the environment by bottles ending up in landfills and it is no healthier than ordinary tap water.

Why Bottled Water is not Healthier

Although beverage companies are making billions off bottled water that they punt as being “healthy” for one, various studies done globally have proven that to be nothing other than a marketing lie to sell their product.

Reasons why bottled water is not healthier for one include:

  • Not Safer: Many of the companies selling bottled water tell you that it is safer than the water in your tap, but various studies have shown this to be a lie, mainly because the regulations surrounding bottled water are more lax than those for tap water. Various tests of bottled water have shown that many of the brands are in fact less healthy than tap water and contain cryptosporidium, a parasite that poses a serious health threat to the elderly as well as individuals with weakened immune systems.
  • Not all from a Pristine Source: Many of the brands of bottled water that claim to be “spring water” sourced from a pristine underground source are nothing more than ordinary tap water that has been bottled.
  • Damaging to the Environment: Many of the brands transport the water thousands of kilometres, incurring air pollution; and around 350 million litres of oil is used annually in the manufacture of all the plastic bottles for the water, most of which then end up in landfills somewhere.
  • Human Rights Infringements: In a world where billions of people do not have access to safe drinking water, the huge beverage corporations are exacerbating the global water crisis by privatising underground aquifers around the world and pumping them dry.

Let’s face it, the only people that bottled water is good for is the owners and shareholders of beverage companies; stop wasting money on bottled water and protect human beings and the environment by investing ins a water filter or a water cooler with a filter that can provide you with chilled or hot filtered water 24/7.
