Aluminium

Studies have found that aluminium that is ingested via drinking water and various other sources is a major contributory factor to Alzheimer´s disease. According to a study published in the prestigious peer-reviewed journal Brain Research, aluminium is a potent neurotoxin and when it reacts with the fluoride in the water it causes more aluminium to cross the blood-brain barrier; this aluminium then becomes deposited in the brain. Aluminium has also been implicated as contributing to the initiation of cancer.

Other Metals

Mercury, lead and copper from old pipes and various other sources also often contaminate the drinking water, inhibiting zinc uptake in the body, which can lead to inhibition of the effectiveness of vitamin C to protect against prostate cancer.

Arsenic

Even very low levels of arsenic that can seep into the soil from natural sources such as agriculture and industrial waste, and make its way into the drinking water, can be linked to cancer, according to the National Academy of Sciences.

Nitrates and Nitrites

Nitrate, common in rural areas, has been linked to bladder cancer in women and to colon and bladder cancers.  Studies in various countries have also shown that high nitrite levels, especially in conjunction with low vitamin C levels, are linked to brain, oesophageal and stomach cancers.
