Home Water Cooler: Rent or Buy?If you are planning on getting a home water cooler, it is important that you decide whether it is better to rent one or to hire one. This decision should be made after considering your reasons for getting a water cooler, the type of water cooler you want, finances and various other considerations.

As with most things, there are advantages and disadvantages to both buying and renting home water coolers; what you need to do is prioritise what is important for you:

Renting a Home Water Cooler

Renting a home water cooler may be a better option for someone living in a rented home, as they will most probably inevitably move at some stage and schlepping a water cooler along is not that great. There may also not be enough space in your new home for a water cooler, or for the one you currently have.

If you live in an apartment, you may want to rent a mains water cooler, as you may not have sufficient space for extra water bottles that you would have to keep for a bottled water cooler. On the other hand, make sure that you are allowed to put in a plumbed-in water cooler by the owner of the apartment if you are renting.

Another thing to take into consideration when deciding whether to rent or buy a home water cooler is whether there is a reputable water company nearby, and whether they offer a good delivery service; you really don’t want to have to collect the bottles yourself.

Purchasing a Home Water Cooler

If you have a large family or entertain often, it may pay you to rather purchase a home water cooler than to rent one. The choice of whether to buy a bottled home water cooler or a plumbed mains water cooler (POU) may once again depend upon whether you have the space to store bottles or not.

Of course one also needs to look at the financial side of things; can you afford to purchase water cooler that you want right now? If you can, then great, go ahead and buy one. If not, rent a home water cooler until you can afford to purchase one.

Whichever decision you make, ensure that the water company with which you choose to do business is a member of the British Water Cooler Association (BWCA), which sets strict rules and regulations to which its members must adhere.
