With 2.1 billion people lacking proper access to clean drinking water, it’s essential to stay clear of certain countries, as water can make one very sick.
While we couldn’t fit every single country with poor water conditions, and in some cases, neither their bottled water, these are the top seven countries with the worst drinking water in the entire world.
Nations with Undrinkable Water
- Mexico – There’s no doubt that Mexico is portrayed as one lively city, but did you know that up to three-quarters of residents don’t have access to clean drinking water in their homes. These residents only drink packaged water and are considered the number one consumer of bottled water per city.
- Congo – As one of the most rural countries in Africa, only 21% of the Congolese people have access to water close to their homes, the rest must travel far every day to retrieve their daily water.
- Bhutan – Only one-third of drinking water, managed by the government, isn’t contaminated.
- Ghana – Over 50% of residents don’t have access to basic water and sanitation services.
- Nepal – 30% of residents don’t have access to any bathrooms and sanitation facilities.
- Nigeria – 15% of residents are currently consuming some form of contaminated or an unclean water source.
- Uganda – 40% of residents are required to travel over 30 minutes by foot, to access clean drinking water.
- Ethiopia – This country has one of the most unsafe water ratios of 43-point difference, between rural areas, compared to urban areas in the country.
